Narrative

Unfixed: Queer Interference explores the glitch as a space of disruption, refusal and possibility. Drawing on ideas of system error, interference and slippage, the work considers queerness as something that can interrupt fixed social and technological structures, creating openings where alternative ways of being can emerge. Rather than treating error as failure, the project approaches glitches, distortions and nonperformance as generative forces that expose dominant systems and open up other ways of being.

Inspiration

The project is informed by glitch feminism, cyberfeminism and experimental photographic practices that engage abstraction, motion and technological mediation. It draws on ideas of the body as mutable, computational and resistant, alongside concepts of signal noise, machinic anxiety and strategic illegibility. Visually, the work is also shaped by organic forms, water, flow, shadows and shifting light, bringing softness and fluidity into dialogue with fragmentation, interference and the aesthetics of system malfunction.

Technical Details

The work combines portraiture, intentional camera movement, projection and scan-based experimentation to translate these ideas through image-making. Long exposures, layered light, motion, reflection and distortion are used to create images that move between abstraction and embodiment, while scans and projected elements may introduce further slippage, fragmentation and glitch-like disruptions. Through these processes, the work explores tension between organic movement and technological systems, softness and rupture, coherence and interference.
